Rules and policies

Community guidelines

SamajMilan is a place for families. Everyone here has come to find a life partner for a son, a daughter or themselves, so we behave here the way we would at any samaj gathering.

Version v1.0Pre-launch draft, pending legal review

One thing to remember

Give every family the respect you would want for your own.

Expected of everyone

How everyone behaves here

  • Speak to everyone with respect

Keep your language courteous, whether or not things move forward. Give the same respect to a candidate and to their parents.

  • Give only true information

Write your name, age, education, work, marital status and samaj and pargana details truthfully. Photos must be recent and of the person the profile is for. If you create a profile for someone else, have their consent.

  • Accept a "no"

If the other family says no, or does not reply, do not keep messaging. Do not pressure them through relatives or friends, and do not make a new profile to contact them again.

  • For marriage only

SamajMilan is only for finding a life partner. Do not use it for dating, business, selling or collecting numbers.

  • Keep what you are trusted with

When a family shows you a number or a photo, it is for your family's decision only. Keep it within your family.

  • Tell us when it is settled

When a marriage is settled, tap "Got married" in the app to close the profile, so other families are not left waiting.

Never allowed

What is never allowed here

Any of these can lead to a profile being suspended or removed for good.

  • Asking for money

Asking for money, gifts or help for any reason is not allowed: fees, travel, illness, a trip abroad, anything. If someone asks, never send money, and tap "Report" at once.

  • Passing on someone's number or photos

Sending someone's phone number, photos or biodata to others without their permission, or posting them in WhatsApp groups or on social media, is not allowed. Screenshots included.

  • Hate and caste-based abuse

Insults or hateful remarks about anyone's samaj, caste, gol, pargana, religion, skin colour, looks or disability are not allowed.

  • Harassment and pressure

Repeated messages after a no, threats, obscene or inappropriate messages, following someone, or pressuring anyone are strictly not allowed.

  • False profiles

Making a profile in someone else's name or with someone else's photos, giving a false age or education, or keeping a profile while already married is not allowed.

Child safety

Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation

SamajMilan is only for people aged 18 and over. Child sexual abuse and exploitation are completely prohibited here. That includes:

  • Any material that shows a child sexually (CSAM), whether photo, video, drawing or text: making it, sharing it, asking for it or keeping it.
  • Befriending or contacting a child with a sexual intent.
  • Using a child for money or favours, or trafficking children.
  • A profile for anyone under 18, or arranging the marriage of a child.

Such an account is closed at once, banned for good and reported to the police as the law requires.

Report and block

If something feels wrong

Both are on every profile, and both work straight away. You can do both if you need to.

Report

  1. 1. Open the profile you are worried about.
  2. 2. Tap "Report".
  3. 3. Choose the reason that fits best. The report goes to that profile's samaj office.

Reasons you can choose

  • Fake profile
  • Wrong information
  • Inappropriate photo
  • Harassment
  • Fraud
  • Already married
  • Wrong community info
  • Other

The family you report is not told who reported them.

Block

Tap "Block" on the profile. Contact stops from that moment.

A block works both ways: neither of you will see the other in search, send interest or chat.

After a report

What happens after a report

  1. 1. The samaj office looks

The authorised admins of that profile's samaj read the report and look into it.

  2. 2. A decision is made

One of the four decisions below is taken.

  3. 3. Both sides are told

The person who reported always hears the outcome in the app.

  4. 4. Serious? Police too

For fraud, threats or anything involving a child, also tell the police.

Possible decisions

  • No action needed
  • A warning to the member
  • The profile is suspended, so nobody can see it
  • The profile is closed as "Got married"

The person who reported hears the outcome even when no action was needed. If a member is warned or suspended, they are told too.
